LAMININ
Last week at the Youth service, pastor Ronnie played a video “Chris Tomlin - How Great Is Our God”. There was this guy Louie Giglio who gave a very visual description as to how great and awesome our God is! It’s rather technical … speaking about the stars in the universe and all but it was awesome! Our God is truly awesome! What really got my attention in that video presentation was the subject matter on LAMININ.
What’s Laminin? It’s a cell adhesive molecule. And what’s that? Our body is made up of cells, some 75 trillion of it (75,000,000,000,000). Every 3 seconds some 50,000 dies and at the same time 50,000 new cells are being generated. And that’s in every 3 seconds! Cells organize into certain molecular structures and that in turn determine what protein they are, speaking of which there are some 16,000 proteins in the human body and one of them is a cell adhesive molecule and is organized into this certain structure and that tells the cell what its job is in the body. LAMININ is a cell adhesive molecule and what it does is it holds the membrane together. In other words it is the glue of the human body that holds the 75 trillion cells in our bodies together and gives our bodies its structure! It’s the foundation of the human body. NOW here’s the interesting part. This is how laminin looks like in diagram and microscopic snapshot …..
Far out man! That’s heavy! (That’s the lingo we used back in the 70’s). That’s shaped exactly like the cross of Jesus! Coincidental? No way man … not when God is the Creator! Everything is carefully and masterfully pieced together by God Himself! Dig it?
In Corinthians 12 Paul describes the Church as the Body of Christ. We are the individual members that forms different parts of the body (call it cells) and Jesus of course is the Head of this body (church). The head speaks about supremacy and sufficiency as is described in Colossians 1. Here’s where it gets interesting.
Colossians 1
(15) He (Jesus) is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. (16) For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. (17) He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. (18) And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.
Jesus holds all things together! You and I in the Body of Christ are being glued together by Jesus just as Laminin holds our body together! We are individual yet not independent of one another. We have different talents, gifts, yet we need each other. Everything … the universe, the stars, galaxies, everything … is in its place and held together by Jesus Christ! In other words, GOD IS IN CONTROL! Wow! So is there a need for us to fret? Is there a necessity to worry about tomorrow? Isn’t it true that “if God is for us who then can be against us?”
I’ve always have a fascination about space, about the universe, its vastness. I don’t think anyone, scientists or not, can ever grasp the awesomeness of creation and especially the universe. Someday we will. But until then it is indeed a heart-warming thought just to know that the One who made it all? We have the privilege to call Abba Father. Every morning when you wake up, I think it is appropriate to proclaim “This is the day the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it”. Just like David at the very beginning of each day, decide in advance that no matter what I will fix my eyes on Jesus. You see … in Him all things hold together.
