For or Against?
Romans 12:32b reads … “ If God is for us, who can be against us”.
Do you have a confidante? To simplify, a confidante is a person who is there for you. He is there in good times or in bad times. He is there for you when you are richer or when you are poorer. He is someone you can be transparent with, someone you can confide in knowing that he is there simply for you and for no other reasons. If you can find 2 or 3 such persons in your lifetime, then you are a blessed person.
There are people in our lives whom we reckon as friends but we really don’t know if they truly are. People may be for you but not because of you but rather for the cause you believe in. They will sacrifice for you. They will protect you. They will walk the second mile with you. They will fight alongside you but it’s not because of you. It’s because they believe in what you believe in. Such people will be for you as long as they buy into your cause, your mission. They are clear about the mission. And the moment you deviate from the cause or if you give up on the mission, they will soon abandon you!
There is another type of people who seemingly is for you but in reality, they are not. They are fighters! These people are into the game because they love a good fight. They love the challenge. They are not there for you. They are not even there for the mission. They are just looking for a fight and if they see you fighting over a cause, they will join you; even fend for you so they can keep the fight going. They are there really for the excitement. Sometimes we mistook them as friends. Take away the fight and they too will leave you.
In Romans, God emphatically states that He is FOR us and not AGAINST us. God is for us not because of the cause, nor the fight. He is there for us for no other reason other than us. In good times, He will laugh and celebrate with us. In bad times, He sticks with us like super glue! When we are well, He will golf with us. And when we are sick, He is always there by the sick bed with us. When we make mistakes, even sin, He is still there faithfully with us because He is FOR us. If we lose all that we have and become poor, you can count on the fact that He will never abandon us! He is always WITH us and no matter what, He will always be FOR us and not against us. It is His choice when He chose us. Where can we ever find a friend like Jesus?
O Lord our God. How majestic is your Name in all the earth! Indeed, you are my Lord and my good Shepherd. In you Lord I trust. You are my rock and my fortress and my salvation. You are my God and my faithful Friend!
Folks, the more we walk with Jesus, the more we emulate Him. The more we walk with Jesus, the more we become like Him. That’s why today I give thanks and praise to God for the more I walk with Him, the more I become like Him and along the way, just as Jesus is to me, I am too to someone else by mere association with Jesus … a confidante. Thank God for Christians!
