It's A Virus
Ah … looks like we're into the FLU season again. Nope, I am not having the flu (praise God) but people around me seems to be catching the bug. And that got me thinking a bit. I Wikipedia the word VIRUS and this here is the definition …
"A virus is a small infectious agent that can replicate only inside the living cells of organisms."
One thing we know about virus; IT SPREADS! And when it does, it can be pandemic! Remember the H1N1 virus? It's got the world's attention. It spread from country to country and here in our own country we too had some fatalities. It shooked us up quite a bit. People avoided public places, wore masks, schools closed for a season, etc. I remember the anxieties that plagued us like a disease. People were indifferent to each other for fear of catching the virus. It changed us, at least for a while. I too remember the SARS couple of years back. Same effect. And all because of a strand of …. VIRUS!
I am rather amazed (pardon the pun) at how viruses spread and its effects. We have felt the effects of a computer virus, but what is amazing is the speed and the manner viruses (both organic and inorganic) spread! And what's more amazing is, it usually starts with just one person! One person infect another person, and now two persons infect another two, and then another two, and on and on and on. Then someone infected hop on to a plane and the virus is transported across the oceans! And there, it starts again.
Coming back to Wikipedia, a virus is a small infectious AGENT that can REPLICATE! Hey, that sounds like us? I mean, you and me! Didn't Jesus say … “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” (Matt 28:19).
We are that INFECTIOUS AGENT of God that can REPLICATE the life of God in people as we INFECT the world with this virus called the GOOD NEWS! This GOSPEL that we carry is the infectious virus of God and its effect is ETERNAL LIFE! It cannot harm. It can only bless. It saves, heals and delivers and it is Jesus' desire (in His parting words) that we (the carrying agents) infect the whole world with it!
I have a question. Are you saved? Or are you a disciple? See, a disciple is one that makes other disciples. When a person is saved and is not in the business of making disciples, then that person is just saved. He is not a disciple of Christ. I think all of us here need to seriously think about our faith in God. I don't need to elaborate. This is a soul searching time. Why are we here on earth for? Why are Christians so into receiving than giving? When Jesus saved us, it is not His plan for us to be fed, blessed and safe. His plan for us is simply to infect the world with His gospel. It won't be a comfortable road ahead of us if we were to do that. There will be opposition, sacrifice, even danger. He said there will be trouble ahead but He promised us His everlasting presence and His joy. Many of us have been in our comfort zones for just too long. What good is a virus if it doesn't infect? The GOSPEL we preaches is designed by God to have the viral effect. We are His infectious agents. Let us spur each other. We have a mission. This is not time to gather like a lake, but to flow like a river. Remember, we are disciples of Jesus Christ!
